Ingredients Glossary

Welcome to the ingredients glossary section. The aim of this page is to help out anyone confused about what the ingredients in many of their supplements do. This is not supposed to a scientific discussion (there are better sources for that) but more a combination of technical details, user views from across the web and guides for use.

Caffeine:

A popular drug consumed the world-over, often found naturally in beverages such as tea, coffee or added to energy drinks. Caffeine is a Central Nervous System stimulant and which can temporarily relive drowsiness and increase energy levels.  Though a drug it is an uncontrolled substance in nearly every country and is consumed by millions of people every day.

Supplement use:

Caffeine is commonly found in many fat loss and energy increasing products (such as pre-workout boosters) and may be found on the label under caffeine (the synthetic form), guarana, kola nut or yerba mate.

Unfortunately many fat loss products rely on caffeine to let the user ‘feel’ the product working, which can lead the user to believe the product is effective.

Side effects:

From ‘normal’ use a consumer of caffeine can expect to feel more alert and have slightly increased energy levels. Taking high levels or a person whose is sensitive to caffeine intake may experience:

  • Nervousness and anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Rapid heart beat
  • Increased urination

Caffeine is generally regarded as safe. Very large doses are required in most before severe side effects occur, though drinking many high caffeine drinks in a short space of time, or supplementing with pure caffeine, can lead to undersirable and uncomfortable symptoms.
